Book launch at the National Military Museum

Monday, December 18, 2006 the National Military Museum will celebrate 83 years of existence by the launch of the book “Ferdinand I seen by his contemporaries” and the “Bulletin of the National Military Museum” no. 4/2006.

The book “Ferdinand I seen by his contemporaries” is a biography of the king under whose rule the Romanians established the Great Romania. The authors – Neculai Moghior, Ion Danila and Vasile Popa – made a deep investigation using the sources of documentation, iconography and other facts from the patrimony of the National Military Museum, the National Archives and the Armed Forces Historical Service.

The “Bulletin of the National Military Museum” is a historical publication on scientific research of the patrimony, being structured on different chapters: history, archeology, museography and conservation/restoration.

83 years ago, on December 18, 1923 the Military Museum became through the High Decree no. 6064 of King Ferdinand I the institution became the National Military Museum. The new institution’s role was designed by Alexandru Tzigara Samurcas as the place for “keeping for eternity the most precious jewels of the people and especially the national tradition as the most vivid appearance”. This year, on September 6, the Museum was re-named as “ King Ferdinand I” National Military Museum through the Decision of the Government no. 1181.
