Romanian aviators in BALTICA ‘07 mission
The Romanian military aviators received the Air Police service in the Baltic States, from the French pilots, during a ceremony Tuesday, July 31, at the Siauliai Air Base, Lithuania.
Romania was represented by our consul in Lithuania, Mr. Calin Camarasu, commander of the Romanian Principal Air Command, Major General Laurentiu Chirita and commander Ion Avram, commander of the 71st Air Base.
The commander of the French detachment, Lieutenant Colonel Pierre Vaysse handed to the Romanian Detachment commander, Captain Commander Laurentiu Chirita the symbolic key of the air space of the Baltic States.
The take off of the two Mirages -2000 represented the official end of the French Detachment mission and a static exhibition of MiG 21 LanceR represented the beginning of BALTICA ’07 mission for the Romanian Detachment.
For the future three months, technical staff and pilots from the 71st Campia Turzii Air Base will act in BATICA ’07. The Romanian Detachment’s main mission is the Air Police service under NATO command in peace time, as integrate part of the collective air defense for the Baltic States’ air space preservation.
