“Mircea” school ship accosting in Constanta Bay

“Mircea” school ship in training march for 52 days on the Mediterranean Sea will accost Friday, August 10, at 11 a.m. in Military Constanta Bay.

“Mircea” went June 19, for 4,800 maritime miles and had stops in five European bays: Piraeus, Alicante, Barcelona, Toulon and Geneva. The march offered the opportunity of training on board for the 39 students of “Mircea cel Batran” Navy Academy, 67 students of “Amiral Ion Murgescu” Military School and 13 foreign cadets from France, Germany, Holland, Denmark, Turkey, Ukraine and Croatia.

“Mircea” school ship also participated in “Tall Ship Races 2007 Mediterranea” competition together with the world sails elite and in each of the bays there were sport competitions in which the Romanian crew always had a place on the podium.

During the stops, the school ship was visited by more than 20,000 persons expressing their positive opinions on its quality and the crew.

The access of the public and the media representatives will start at 10.30 a.m.

“Mircea” school ship was made in 1938-39 in Blohm&Voss shipyard, Hamburg, Germany. It is the symbol of the Romanian naval traditions and almost all of the generations of military officers and sailors had their training on board.
In 1976, “Mircea” school ship participated in the events organized within the Bicentenary of the United States Independency and in 2004 crossed the Atlantic Ocean for the second time and participated in “Tall Ships Challenge 2004”. In 2005 had a training march on the Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea, participating in “Tall Ships Races 2005” and in other many international maritime festivals in Belgium, France, Great Britain, Norway, Germany and Holland.
