George Cristian Maior State Secretary in the Ministry of National Defence in visit in the united States of America met Tuesday March 9, 04 in Washington DC the Republican Senator Charles Hagel.
During the talks, Senator Hagel reaffirmed the firm American support in strengthening the bilateral relations of cooperation in security, appreciating the commitment of the Romanian authorities for the continuation of the active implication in the processes of peace, stabilization and reconstruction of Iraq and Afghanistan.
State Secretary Maior thanked for the support granted to Romania stressing on the very important role the United States had in the acceleration of the reforms in defence domain.
Continuation of the Romanian-American partnership, the main issue of the bilateral cooperation in defence area, including the Romanian participation as NATO member alongside USA and the other members of the Coalition represented another issue of talks for the two officials.
At the end of the meeting, Senator Hagel reaffirmed the support granted to Romania and the strategic role of the Romanian –American partnership stressing on the importance of the Black Sea region within the present dynamic environment of security with major impact on ensuring the stability and security in Central Asia and Middle East.
Senator Charles Hagel is member of the Senatorial Committees for Foreign Affairs, president of the Sub-Committee for International Economic Policies, Exports and Trade, being an active promoter of NATO’s enlargement and Romania’s join to the North Atlantic Alliance.
