Today, April 15, General Dr. Mihail Popescu, Chief of the Romanian General Staff, attended by the Chiefs of the Romanian Services Staffs, has taken part in the ceremony of hoisting the national flag in front of the Supreme Headquarters, Allied Powers Europe, in Mons, Belgium.

The flag of our country was taken over from General James L. Jones, Supreme Allied Forces Europe Commander (SACEUR) and then hoisted to the pole by NCO Nicușor Bălan, Romanian General Staff Representance at SHAPE, by Master Sergeant Răzvan Voicu and Sergeant Daniel Mihai, the 30th Guards and Protocol Regiment while the national anthems were played.

In his speech, General Jones told the audience that: “It is necessary that all Alliance states go through the internal reorganisation of their defence structures. Therefore, new efforts are expected in this respect to increase the capabilities and interoperability level of NATO forces. While NATO contributes to the undergoing operations worldwide, our sustained efforts to provide forces and capabilities to these military missions will play a significant role. The suggestions made by the new allies to develop these forces are mostly welcome.”

Also, the Romanian military delegation met the members of the Romanian General Staff Representance at SHAPE and was informed on the issues related to our Representance’ new location.
