George Cristian Maior, State Secretary and chief of Department for Euro-Atlantic Integration and Defence Policy participated today, May 31, 04 at the opening of the 12th Partnership for Peace Environment Annual Conference a four days long conference organized at Marriott Hotel in Bucharest. The theme of this conference is: “Water Resources and Military Regional Cooperation in Environment; Black Sea and Caspian Sea, Basin of the Danube and the Delta; Environment Legislation within NATO and EU Enlargement”.
During the opening of the conference, State Secretary Maior presented the necessity of cooperation between the Black Sea and Caspian Sea riveran states and the Danube basin states in environment and water resources as an expression of the complexity of the factors of the global security in the nowadays international context.
The Romanian official stressed the followings: “ The importance of the Black Sea region is determined among other by the human and natural resources. Its location has a great strategic significance being placed in the triangle of security limited by the Balkans, South Caucasus and the Middle East. The Black Sea area is fundamentally important for Romania and the Ministry of National Defence developed numberless activities for the political-military cooperation in this region.”
To this activity organized by the MoND Inspectorate in cooperation with USEUCOM the participants are officials from the Romanian Government, European Union, US Department of Defence and USEUCOM. The conference gathers representatives from 33 NATO and PfP states from Central and Eastern Europe.
