Minister Duša participated in the Annual Report of the Military Prosecutor`s Office Attached to the Military Court of Appeal

The Minister of National Defence, Mircea Duša, and representatives of the Presidential Administration, the Romanian Government and the Superior Council of Magistracy participated on Monday, 18 February, in the meeting for the presentation of the Annual Report of the Military Prosecutor`s Office attached to the Military Court of Appeal.

The General Prosecutor, Colonel Magistrate Nelu Ciobanu, informed on the activity conducted by military magistrates in 2012, in terms of both criminal and judiciary actions taken. The defence minister addressed the audience with the message that the budget of the military decreased in the past years but it will increase in 2013. "This year we have to diminish the impact of the equipment problems you are faced with. You will see that the military leadership has the will to create the proper conditions for the military magistrates to carry out their duties", minister Mircea Duša said.

As to the Annual Report of the Military Prosecutor`s Office attached to the Military Court of Appeal, minister Duša highlighted: "During my term in office I will keep the military away from the political environment. This is why I will never make appreciations on how well you achieve your specific tasks".

The Military Prosecutor`s Office attached to the Military Court of Appeal is a structure of the Public Ministry, one of the 16 prosecutor’s offices attached to courts of appeal, but is also a military unit.

From a functional point of view and of the judiciary responsibilities, this is an independent structure in relation to any other public authority, dependent to a certain extent (mainly financially and logistically) on the Ministry of National Defence.
