Ceremony Organized for the Deployment of “Lupii negri" to Afghanistan
The Minister of National Defence, Mircea Dușa, and the chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Ștefan Dănilă, participated in the military ceremony organized in Iași to mark the deployment of the 151st "Lupii Negri" Infantry Battalion to Afghanistan, on Thursday, July 11, 2013.
"You deploy in an area that is complicated from a military point of view, that registered a lot of incidents this spring but I am convinced the way you prepared, the experience you acquired in previous missions in Afghanistan, Kosovo or Iraq enables you to accomplish any missions you are assigned to", Minister Mircea Dușa told the troops before their departure.
The Minister of National Defence also told the troops that they are facing a big challenge as the final goal of the mission is to support National Afghan Security Forces to take over the command and to ensure a stable security environment proper for the economic and institutional development of Afghanistan.
Mircea Dușa thanked the populace of Iasi for their participation and respect shown for the military institution. "I can see in the eyes and faces of the participants in this event, emotion and respect for a Romanian institution involved in international missions, in collective defence missions, whenever and wherever the need arose", Minister Dușa pointed out.
The event organized in Iași included the religious service, the solemn appeal and the march of the troops that would deploy to the theater of operations.
The main missions of the troops of Iași will consist in ensuring their area of responsibility, offering humanitarian assistance to the local population and training the National Afghan Security Forces, by conducting joint military missions.
