School-ship “Mircea” participating to the “Tall Ships Challenge 2004” had a stop between July 15 and 19, 04 in Newport. This period of time the organizers announced the official results of the competition between Charleston and Delaware Bay and in the final top the ship “Mircea” enlisted the second.
During the visit in Newport the commander of the march, Flotilla Rear-Admiral Patricia Stoica and the commander of the ship, commander Dinu Pamparau met the president of the US Navy College, Rear-Admiral Roan Route and were received by the Governor of the Road Island State and the Major of the Newport City.
21 students of the Navy Academy “Mircea cel Batran” and pupils of the Foremen Military School “Amiral Ion Murgescu” participated to a festive parade on Newport streets.
The inhabitants were interested in the presence of the Romanian ship in Newport during the two days the ship could be visited and more then 4000 visitors reached on board.
The US media granted the attention to the participation of the Romanian ship to this competition, the ABC and NBC televisions broadcast reportage about “Mircea” the symbol ship of the Romanian navy.
After the supply with water, food and fuel “Mircea” is ready for picking up the anchor for a naval parade organized near Newport.
