EU Informal Defence Ministers Meeting
The Minister of National Defence , Mihnea Motoc, participated in the EU Informal Defence Ministers Meeting conducted in Bratislava, over September 26 to 27. It is the first event in this format organized by the Slovak Republic, since it took over the chairmanship of the EU Council.
Taking into account the security challenges the EU is facing, the talks focused on the best ways of implementing the EU Global Strategy, especially in the field of security and defence and achieving the synergy with the Defence Action Plan devised by the European Commission.
Based on the propositions of the High Representative, they discussed the calendar, priorities and actions for the implementation of the Strategy, the role of the main actors involved and the interaction between EU structures, with a view to consolidating the Common Security and Defence Policy over the next period.
The defence ministers also discussed the cooperation between the European Union and NATO and analyzed the French and German propositions concerning the consolidation of the Common Security and Defence Policy. According to the common NATO-EU declaration in Warsaw, there is a need to enhance the cooperation relation between the two organizations and their complementarity for the development of the defence capacities and their operational commitments.
