British Aircraft at Mihail Kogălniceanu
A detachment of the British Royal Air Force from the Coningsby air base will be deployed to Romania at Mihail Kogalniceanu military base, from May 1 to August 31, to carry out air police missions together with the Romanian Air Forces.
The British detachment will consist of four Eurofighter aircraft and about 150 soldiers - pilots and technical staff.
The deployment of the RAF aircraft to Romania is part of implementing the Plan of action to ensure the operational capacity of NATO on the eastern flank both to the North and to the South. Until now, the air police missions were conducted either simultaneously or by rotation in order to secure the air space of the Baltic countries, Benelux, Iceland and Bulgaria.
The joint air police missions will contribute to the development of the response and deterrence capacity and to enhancing interoperability between Romanian and the British Air Forces.
