EUROPEAN UNION MEDAL FOR THE ROMANIAN ENGINEERING TROOPS IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA
The Romanian Engineering Detachment acting in Bosnia and Herzegovina under NATO and EUFOR command received medals Saturday, February 26, 05 in Butmir Camp in Sarajevo.
The 44 Romanians received the European Union medal with ALTHEA operation emblem from the EUFOR chief of staff, German Brigade General Peter Goebel.
“ You have the honor to end a mission in which Romania participated since the very beginning in 1996 under the North Atlantic Alliance’s lead. Thank you for your effort and the professionalism you showed. Your country has a lot to be proud of!” General Goebel said during the medal ceremony.
British Major General David Leaky commander of the mission, personally congratulated the Detachment commander, Colonel Vergil Ciltea, and the Romanian national representative, Major Florin Vasile for the entire activity of the engineering troops for peace and stability in the former Yugoslavian republic.

The Romanian soldiers forming the Engineering Detachment moved to the theater of operations in Bosnia and Herzegovina in October 2004 and acted within the SFOR mission of NATO and since December 1, 2004 within European Union ALTHEA mission.
The Romanian contingent will return home in the middle of March.
