Romanian officer killed in action in Afghanistan
An officer was killed and other four officers were wounded today, April 7, at about 7.45 hour (Romanian mean time) in Afghanistan.
Captain Iuliu Vasile Unguras was leading a four Humvees patrol mission, from the 21st Maneuver Battalion, on A1 Kandahar-Kabul highway. At about 20 km North-east from Qalat, one vehicle passed over an improvised explosive device. In the explosion the officer was killed and other four militaries were wounded. After the attack, the area was secured and the wounded militaries were evacuated to Lagman and Kandahar military hospitals.
Captain Iuliu Vasile Unguras was 32 years old, was married and had two children.
The Minister of National Defense, Mihai Stanisoara, the chief of General Staff, Admiral Gheorghe Marin and all the MoND leaders express their deep regret for this loss and their sympathy with the mourning family.
