Romanian medical assistants medalled in Iraq

Five Romanian medical assistants received The Army Commendation Medal in sign of gratitude and dedication in fulfilling their mission in Iraq.

This distinction was granted to the NCOs Catalina Scoicaru, Daniela Breazu, Sergiu Chivu, Sanda Hutanu and Razvan Gherghina by the commander of the 344th US Army hospital, Colonel William Martin.

Romania and the United States of America are the only countries in the Coalition contributing with medical specialized personnel in the two hospitals.

The ambassador of Romania in Iraq, Mihai Stuparu, the commanders of the Romanian medical detachments from Abu Gharib and Camp Bucca hospitals, Lieutenant Colonel Paul Codres and Major Marius Iulian Pop participated in this ceremony.

A team made of three doctors and eight assistants acting in the intensive therapy unit, laboratory, dental service and pharmacy are acting in Abu Gharib hospital specialized on emergency medical care. The Camp Bucca team consisting in two doctors and seven assistants are participating in medical assistance for the Iraqi patients. The Romanian medical personnel is acting not only in specific activities in this hospital but are doing the primary medical work with prophylactic character ( immunization, medical checks for health evaluation).
