The Armed Forces ready for intervention in case of floods

Minister of National Defense, Teodor Atanasiu, will fly today by a military helicopter over Tulcea and Galati regions and then in Braila will be informed on the measures taken by the 10th Engineering Brigade for intervention in case the clime evolution in the future days would impose it.

The 10th Engineering Brigade commander, Colonel Mihai Tofan will also present the engineering equipment and the forces that might intervene on the inner Danube from Calarasi to Galati and on the lower parts of Prut and Siret rivers for evacuation of people, consolidation or repair of roads and dykes.

By order of the minister of National Defense, the chief of General Staff ordered a disposition for the Ministry of National Defense intervention by forces and means for limiting, diminishing and remove of the effects of the floods.

According to the above mentioned document, the actions of intervention in case of floods will be performed at request of the central and local public administration authorities and will aim in the first stage the salvation of human lives and the evacuation of the affected people, protection of private estates, and evacuation of goods. After that the forces will participate in repair of dykes and protection works against floods, will repair the infrastructure of roads, will load and unload and transport of the humanitarian relieves. For limiting and returning to life of the flood affected areas they established sectors of responsibility, thus: the 2nd Light Infantry Brigade, Craiova in Gruia -Turnu Magurele area; the 34th Mechanized Brigade, Bucharest in Turnu Magurele-Calarasi area; the 10th Engineering Brigade, Braila in Calarasi-Galati area; and the 307th Marines Battalion, Babadag in Galati-Tulcea-Sulina area.

In the same time the airplanes from Otopeni and Bacau air bases will be able to perform search and rescue missions, reconnaissance in the flood affected regions and transport of materials.

Yesterday, about 30 militaries from the 86th Air Base worked at height and consolidated the protective dyke of Fetesti on about 500 meters long and a military tug boat towed Gilort ship from Vulturu, Tulcea County for the protection of people in this region that might be affected by high flood.
