World Military Fencing Championship in Bucharest

The 41st World Military Fencing Championship under the Military Sport International Council (CISM) aegis is organized in Bucharest between April 21 and 29, 2006. The organizers are the Ministry of National Defense through the Administrative and Services Directorate and the Romanian Armed Forces Sport Club STEAUA .

During the three disciplines foil, spade and sword, male and female about 90 sportsmen from Argentina, Bahrain, Belarus, Canada, Columbia, Switzerland, Italy, Lebanon, Namibia, Norway, Holland, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, US, Sweden, Turkey and Venezuela.

The Championship opening ceremony will occur Saturday, April 22 at 17.00 hours at the 30th Guard and Protocol Regiment Mihai Viteayu in Bucharest, str. General Milea, nr.5-7.

Lieutenant Colonel Rinette Hulme, CISM representative, Brigade General Dr. Catalin Zisu, president of the Committee of Organization, Colonel Stefan Marginean, chief of Romanian delegation in CISM and Lieutenant Colonel Laura Badea, Olympic champion and member of the Foil Technical Committee within CISM will be present Saturday, April 22, at 12.00 hours at Haiducului Military Protocol Hotel, for the press conference.

Mr. Rene Roch, president of the Foil International Federation announced his presence in Romania during this competition.

This is the fourth World Military Championship hosted by Romania as a CISM member state, the second world organization after the Olympic International Committee. In our country we organized the Handball World Military Championship in Bucharest (1997), Volley World Military Championship in Constanta (2002) and Ski World Military Championship in Predeal (2005).
