The promotion celebration of retreat Generals, war veterans, occurred Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at the Ministry of National Defense HQ in the presence of the Minister of National Defense, Teodor Atanasiu and the leaders of the institution. The promotion was made based on the Decree signed by the President of Romania, Traian Basescu, thus:

- (Ret) Major General Ionita Gheorghe was promoted as (Ret) three stars Lieutenant General
- (Ret) Brigade Generals Gradinescu Emil, Sebastian Nicolae-Lucian, Tomescu Mircea and Air Flotilla General Acojocaritei Mircea were promoted as (Ret) Major Generals one star
- (Ret) Colonels Iatropol Neculai, Marcu Nicolae, Netejoru Gheorghe, Pavel Neculai and Perianu Radu-Serban were promoted as (Ret) Brigade Generals one star.

Minister Atanasiu congratulated the promoted veterans and transmitted in the name of the MoND leadership their wishes of health, long life and joys together with their families.
Present at this ceremony also were the president of the War Veterans National Association, Ret. General Marin Dragnea and the Mihai Viteazul Order knights.
