Quarter of century since the first Romanian fly in space

The Air Staff and the Museum of Aviation celebrate 25 years since the fly in space made by the cosmonaut Dumitru Dorin Prunariu in a manifestation with the participation of astronauts from Bulgaria, France, Russian Federation, Poland and the United States of America, Monday, May 15, 2006 starting 15.30 hours.

In May 14, 1981, at 20.16 hours, the Baikonur cosmodrome, Soiuz 40 ship was launched on board with Senior Lieutenant Engineer Pilot Dumitru Dorin Prunariu. A day latter, Soiuz 40 coupled to Saliut 6-Soiuz T4 orbital complex, and the Romanian cosmonaut participated in experiments of astrophysics, nuclear physics, cosmic technology, aeronautic medicine and biology.

May 22, 1981 the descending capsule from Soiuz 40 ship landed in normal conditions on the Earth after about 5,200,000 kilometers, i.e. about 13.7 times the distance between the Earth and the Moon.
