EXPLANATORY NOTE

Regarding the 22 type frigates purchased from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the MoND Press Office submits the following explanatory note:

The agreement of purchase of the 22 type frigates was approved by the Governments of Romania and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland represented by the two Ministries of Defense of the two states. In this respect, The Romanian Government adopted the Decision No. 1423, December 12, 2002.

The British Ministry of Defense choose BAE Systems Company as the first contractor and the Romanian Ministry of National Defense was represented in this contract running by the C.N.Romtehnica S.A.

The Romanian Ministry of National Defense was not part in the contracts between the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland with its contractor BAE Systems and/or the subcontractors of this Company.

The agreement of purchase and modernization have been made according to the contract, the frigates have been tested on the sea, have been checked on delivery by a MoND commission and the ships are now in operative service. Regele Ferdinand frigate participated in Active Endeavour NATO mission in the Mediterranean Sea between October 15 and December 15, 2005.
