NATO/PfP maritime exercise in Constanta

Nine ships of the Romanian Navy and other 18 ships from NATO members and partners are participating in COOPERATIVE MAKO 06 NATO/PfP maritime exercise occurring between June 19 and 30, 2006 in the Romanian territorial waters and the Black Sea international waters.

About 2000 soldiers from five NATO members (Romania including), five partner states, two states from the Mediterranean Dialogue and three countries with status of observers are participating in this exercise. Also, the NATO Permanent Maritime Group in Mediterranean Sea and the Anti-Mine Permanent Maritime Group will be integrand part in this exercise.

The command of the exercise is ensured by the Command of the Maritime Compound (CC-MAR), the Joint Forces Command from Naple (JFC). Co-directors of the exercise are Commander Georgios Kasfikis from CC-MAR and Commander Ionel Dan Ciocoiu from the Romanian Navy.

COOPERATIVE MAKO 06 is a LIVEX type exercise with troops aiming the training of the participating forces in operations of crisis response focusing on the relief in case of disasters and the actions of search, evacuation, processing and ensuring the accommodation of refugees in special arranged camps.

According to the scenario, a multinational force is acting at request of a nation for stabilization of its internal situation having in view the crisis created by a natural disaster and the massive flood of the refugees.
