A military delegation headed by Jonas Hjelm, State Secretary for Defense in the Swedish Ministry of Defense paid a visit in Romania between June 19 and 20, 2006 invited by the State Secretary and chief of Department for Euro-Atlantic Integration and Defense Policy, Ion Mircea Plangu.

The official talks focused on the European Security and Defense Policy, the developments within the partnerships with NATO in view of the Riga Summit, the participation of troops from the two countries in NATO operation in Afghanistan (ISAF) and the armed forces' role in crisis and civilian emergency management.

The program of the visit also included meetings with the Minister of National Defense, Teodor Atanasiu and the State Secretary and chief of the Armament Department, Ioan Ion.
