Jaap de Hoop Sheffer: Romania is a trusted and reliable NATO ally

Romanian troop's participation in this exercise is the sign that Romania is a trusted and reliable NATO ally. I knew that ever before this exercise and I am glad that once again this is confirmed stated Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, General Secretary of the North Atlantic Alliance. He participated Thursday; June 22, 2006 in the Day of Distinguished Guests occurred in NATO STEADFAST JAGUAR 06 exercise.

The Romanian armed forces are participating in this NATO exercise developed between June 1 and July 12, 2006 in the Green Cape Islands with a team of military divers, two topo-geodesist officers and one staff officer.

The 12 EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) divers perform the specific missions in support of the exercise naval component, i.e. they grant support to the allied forces for landing on the beach. The specialists of the Military Topographic Directorate fulfill the missions of the analyze of terrain in support of the exercise command while the staff officer from the Romanian Air Force acts in the ACC ( Air Component Command).


STEADFAST JAGUAR 06 is an operation performed outside the NATO area of responsibility and aims the certification of forces comprised in the North Atlantic Rapid Reaction Force (NRF) for fulfilling the final operational capability.

In this action about 7,000 military from NATO countries participate in. This is the biggest deployment of NRF effective since 2002, the year of establishment.
