A delegation headed by the Commander of the US Europe Forces and the 8th US Army, General David McKiernan visited Romania invited by the Chief of the Army Staff, General Lieutenant Sorin Ioan., between July 18 and 20, 2006.

The visit inscribes the relations of cooperation between the Romanian Army and the US Army and was made the in same time with the development of the tri-lateral Romanian- US Bulgarian IMMEDIATE RESPONSE 06 exercise developed in Bulgaria and Romania between July 13 and 29, 2006.

During the talks at the Army Staff HQ, the two officials approached the participation in common missions in the theaters of operations and the lessons learned. General McKiernan and General Ioan also approached the topics on the increase, diversification and consolidation of the relations of cooperation between the Romanian Army and the US Europe Forces (USAEUR) and the training and participation in common exercises.

During the visit in Romania, the US General met the Chief of the General Staff, General Eugen Badalan.

During the last part of the visit, General McKiernan and Lieutenant General Ioan Sorin visited the 21st Mountain Battalion in Predeal. The Romanian military presented in Cheile Rasnoavei firing field the specific training and proceedings.
