Romanian Flag Hoisted in a Military Base in Zabol, the Afghani province

The 2nd Infantry Battalion Calugareni received yesterday, August 1, the entire responsibility of peacekeeping and security of Zabol, the Afghani province.

The Romanian military are acting under the NATO aegis within ISAF supporting the local forces of security, armed forces and police for achieving and maintaining an environment of security and stability in the region. An US Army Company is subordinated to the Romanian Battalion operational control.

The Romanian flag was hoisted next to the US and the Afghani flags in the military base near Qalat, the capital of Zabol province.

We wish the people of this province to understand the aim of our mission here; we have a mission to fulfill and we are committed to act to help the peaceful inhabitants for having a better life, in peace and security said Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Petrescu, the 2nd Infantry Battalion Calugareni during the meeting with the Zabol governor.

ISAF came in the third phase of the mission of increase of responsibility towards the South of Afghanistan. Zabol province is on the South East of the country, at about 150 km North-East from Kandahar, and it is crossed by the most important route, A1 high way, connecting the South with the North. The province area is comparable with the Romanian province, Dobrogea.
