Mircea returned from the march of training on the Black Sea

Mircea School Ship accosted Thursday, August 10 at 11 a.m. in Constanta Military Bay after the 2,000 maritime miles training march on the Black Sea.
During the one month long march, about 100 students from the Mircea cel Batran Navy Academy and pupils from Admiral Ion Murgescu Navy School have been trained on board of the ship. They developed their theoretical knowledge and improved their ability as sailors, in real conditions. On board, together with the Romanian students and pupils also were two Turkish students.
The training program ended with a practical exam that was also a test for the crew.
The presence of the Romanian ship was signaled in all the stop bays: Novorossisk, Sevastopol, Odessa, Samsun and Varna. The mutual visits between the ship command and the civil and military local authorities and the participation of the Romanian students in cultural and sport activities organized by the hosts was a good way of promotion of the Romanian Navy values. During the stops, Mircea received the visit of more than 3,000 persons that appreciated the ship's quality and the crew professional training and the Romanian hospitality.

Mircea School Ship, bark type, arrived in the country and entered the service on May 17, 1939; it was build between 1938-39 by the Blohm und Woss Shipyard, Hamburg.

The ship was called Mircea as his forefather Bricul Mircea (1882-1944) in order to proudly carry on the seas and the oceans the Romanian colors and the name of our great King, Mircea cel Batran the unifier of the Romanian Country up to the Great Sea.
After the capital repair and the modernization performed in 1966 in the same shipyard and between 1994-2002 in Braila Shipyard, the ship became the most modern among her sisters (Eagle, US; Gorch Foch, Germany; Tovarisch, Russia;
Sagres I, Portugal).
In the last years, Mircea participated in the Tall Ships Challenge 2004 along the Eastern US coast, the International Maritime Festival Marmaris 2005 and Tall Ships Race 2005 in the North Sea.
