Military training camp for pupils from Bucharest

The third edition of the Summer camp for scouts will be developed between August 19 and 27, 2006 at the Air Force Academy Henri Coanda in Brasov. The activity is organized by the Public Relations Directorate of the Ministry of Defense in cooperation with the Air Force Staff and in partnership with the National Authority for Young People, the NATO House and the Euro-Atlantic Association Manfred Worner.

From the 43 pupils participating in the camp, 16 are girls. The main aims of the camp are the promotion of the image of Romania and NATO among the young people, the development and valorification of their physical qualities, the increase of the spirit of competition and the team spirit.

The program includes the military activities such as the learning of the main elements of scout training, the proceedings of orientation in terrain, the life in conditions of campaign, the firings with the compressed air armament, the sport challenges, the military relay race and the obstacle race.

There will be meetings with the active military and students of the Air Force Academy and the scouts will visit the Regional Department of Studies of Defense Resources Management in Brasov, the 21st Mountain Battalion in Predeal and the economic and tourist objectives in Brasov region.

The camp is free and the participants have been selected during the national competition on line on the internet site of the Ministry of Defense (www.mapn.ro/tabara) between March and June, 2006.

The previous editions developed under the motto Be the best! Be in top! have been developed at the Army Academy Nicolae Balcescu in Sibiu (2004) and the Navy Academy Mircea cel Batran in Constanta (2005).

The opening festivity in Brasov will occur Sunday, August 20, 2006 at 10.30 a.m. at the Air Force Academy Henri Coanda, strada Mihai Viteazu, nr. 160. More information on this activity can be obtained from Major Carol Florea (cell phone 0723018122).
