Anniversary at the 2nd Joint Operational Command

The Combat colors of the 2nd Joint Operational Command Maresal Alexandru Averescu will be decorated with the National Order for Merit in rank of Knight, for military during the military and religious ceremony occurring Friday, August 18, 2006 at 11.00 a.m. in Piata Dacia, in Buzau. The event occurs at the anniversary of 90 years since the establishment of the 2nd Army; its combat traditions have been taken by the 2nd Joint Operational Command.

At the Command HQ on Bulevardul Maresal Alexandru Averescu, nr. 1, they will present the movie dedicated to the anniversary and they will lay a wreath at he statue of Marshal Alexandru Averescu, the spiritual patron of this institution.

Civil and military officials, representatives of the public institutions, military and reserve military will participate in the event in Buzau.


The 2nd Army started to act on August 18, 1916 with the intense preparations for the entrance in the First World War. Between July 9 and 14, 1917 the 2nd Army participated in the great offensive from Marasesti.

On March 30, 2000 the 2nd Army Command was transformed in the 2nd Joint Operational Command Buzau. Starting January 1, 2003 the Command started to command and operationally control all the national contingents participating in the peace support operations within the multinational structures and in the initiatives of cooperation.

Between 2001 and 2005 the Command organized and led the national exercises and training such as: BICAZ 2001, BICAZ 2002, BICAZ 2003, BICAZ 2004, DEMEX 05. In the same period of time they participated in the multinational and bilateral exercises, thus: STRONG RESOLVE 2002, COOPERATIVE NUGGET 2004, BLUE ROAD 2004 and BLUE DANUBE 2002, BLUE DANUBE 2004.
