Romanian Engineers from Iraq at the end of the mission

The Irak VI Engineering Detachment had today, August 23, 2006 a military ceremony at the end of their mission, with the participation of the Generals and officers from the 2nd Operational Joint Command from Buzau, Romania, from the MND CS Command and the commanders of the detachments from Armenia, Kazahstan, Poland, Salvador, USA and Ukraine.

During the ceremony, the MND CS representative, the Polish Brigade General Grzegorz Buszka thanked the Romanians for the way they fulfilled their missions and offered them diplomas and badges remembering thir participation in Antica Babilonia mission.

The Romanian Engineering Detachment started the mission in Iraq in July 2003 with 149 military. They have been integrated within the MND CS and deployed in the camps near Al Hillah and Ad Diwaniyah. At the beginning of 2006, the number of Engineers was reduced at 83 and deployed in the camp near Al Kut, Wasit province.

The Romanian Engineers fulfilled the missions of construction and repair of roads, arrange of platforms for helicopters, maintain of bridges connecting different Iraqi localities, construction of engineering elements for the protection of the camps of deployment and the engineering missions for the Iraqi armed forces.

During the three years, in mission in Iraq participated about 830 engineers in six detachments. Commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Gheorghe Soare, Major Paul Nutulescu, Major Adrian Iloiu, Major Florentin Cucu, Major Dan Cosma and Major Mircea Misceac the engineers contributed together with the forces of the coalition in the multinational effort for the strengthen of security and democracy in this country.
