Chief of the Romanian Army Staff, Lieutenant General Sorin Ioan was in official visit between August 19 and 27, 2006 in the United States of America invited by his US counterpart, General Peter J. Schoomaker.

The talks at Pentagon with General Peter J. Schoomaker and Admiral Edmund Giambastiani have been focused on the training of the military, the two armies' reform and modernization, the participation in the current missions developed in the theaters of operations, the continuation and diversification of the excellent relations of cooperation between the Romanian Army and the US Army.

General Ioan also visited the West Point Military Academy and the military bases at Fort Bragg, Fort Irwin and Fort Lewis.
