NATO Official in Visit at Bucharest and Constanta

Admiral Harry G. Ulrich III, commander of the Joint Allied Command, Naples and commander of the US Navy Europe will be in official visit between September 4 and 6, 2006 in Romania, invited by the Chief of the Romanian Navy Staff, Rear Admiral Gheorghe Marin.

The NATO official will have talks with the leaders of the Ministry of Defense and the Chief of the Navy Staff on the present and future aspects of the actions Romania will have to perform for the full integration in NATO, the Alliance's common defense policy and NATO missions in which the Romanian Armed Forces are participating with forces and equipment.
The guest delegation will visit the units of the Navy in Constanta.


The Joint Allied Command, Naples was activated in March 15, 2004 and its structure progressively developed from the former AFSOUTH. It is one of the two Joint Operational Commands subordinated to the Allied Command for Operations, the only Allied Command at strategic level with operational capability with three subordinated components: maritime, in Naples, terrestrial, in Madrid and air, in Izmir.


Admiral Harry G. Ulrich III graduated the Navy Academy in the United States of America in 1972 , and along his career, he had different positions on board of the ships and on the ground.

As the commander of the Joint Allied Command, Naples, in this position being since May 23, 2005 , Admiral Ulrich III is in charge of NATO operational missions in the Balkans, Iraq and the Mediterranean Sea. As the commander of the US Navy, Europe, Admiral Ulrich III has the command, the operational control and the coordination of all the US Navy forces from his area of responsibility.
