Terrorist Crisis Management Exercise GATEX '06

GATEX-06, an exercise with the participation of structures responsible of warning and terrorist crisis management in the Ministry of Defence, the Romanian Intelligence Service and the Ministry of Interior and Administration, was conducted in Bucharest and Targu-Mures during September 4 -8.

The exercise was commanded by Major General Mircea Savu, Chief of the General Staff's Operations Directorate, and was mainly aimed at training the MoD's Anti Terrorist Task Group, at organising, planning and conducting specific activities related to the terrorist crisis management, assisted by the other elements of the National System of Preventing and Fighting Terrorism (NSPFT).

Mutual familiarisation and implementation, within the NSPFT, of the anti-terrorist and counter-terrorist tactics, techniques and procedures was another aim of the exercise.

GATEX-06 was based on an hypothetic scenario, containing the steps of preparing and carrying out an intervention within the Anti-Terrorist Coalition outside national borders, as well as conducting an counter-terrorist intervention, in cooperation with NSPFT elements, at a MoD asset.
