Red Scorpions again in Afghanistan

Red Scorpions are returning in Afghanistan, for three months, to ensure the security of the Kandahar airport. The leaving in mission ceremony will occur, Friday September 22, 2006 at Craiova in the presence of the chief of the Army Staff, Lieutenant General Sorin Ioan and the chief of the Directorate of Operations from the General Staff, Major General Mircea Savu.

The 190 military from the 26th Infantry Battalion Neagoe Basarab will act starting October in the South of Afghanistan, within ISAF.

The 26th Infantry Battalion Neagoe Basarab being in the ISAF operational reserve, participated in international missions in Angola (19996), Albania (1997), Kosovo (2002 with two successive Detachments), Afghanistan (2202 and 2005) and Iraq (2004 and 2005). Last autumn, the Red Scorpions were in Afghanistan to support the development of the electoral process.
