State Secretary and chief of Department for Policy of Defense and Planning, Corneliu Dobritoiu, participated between October 4 and 5, 2006 in the fifth round of high level NATO-Ukraine Informal Consultations occurred in Sintra, Portugal. The Reunion was organized by NATO and the Atlantic Committee of Portugal.

The main topics aimed among other the progress made by Ukraine in implementing the reform in defense and security areas. They also talked about the challenges towards the transformation of the policies of defense within the international environment threaten by multiple threats.

During the Reunion, the ex President of Poland and leader of the Solidarity Union, Lech Walesa was invited for a speech.

Also, there was organized the ceremony for the sign of a Letter of Intention for NATO-Ukraine Partnership in the expertise of the civil society in the area of reform in security domain. The document was signed by Romania, too. During the same Reunion they started the works of the Group of Work on the civil control over the intelligence services created under the aegis of the NATO-Ukraine Joint Working Group for the reform of Defense in which our country is participating, too.
