HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE TO THE PEOPLE OF AGHANISTAN

More than 400 people of the Afghan province of Zabul were given medical assistance by a joint Romanian-American medical team between 12 to 15 October.

The team includes three military from the 2nd Infantry Battalion Calugareni, two doctors, Capt. Sorin Vasiloiu and Lt. Adrian Popa, and one nurse, first sergeant Mihaela Dragoi. The joint medical team assisted the people of the localities of Shinkay and Shamulzay, in the battalion's area of responsibility.

Since August 1, the 2nd Infantry Battalion Calugareni, which also has the operational control of one U.S.Army company, has been operating under NATO aegis, within the International Security and Assistance Force (ISAF), in support of the local security forces, the military and the police, to build up and maintain the security and stability of Zabul, a southeastern province situated at about 150 km north-east of Kandahar.
