The UN representatives visited Zabul, the Afghani province

The UN Council of Security delegation, headed by Kenzo Oshima, the Japan ambassador to the United Nations was in official visit in Qalat, the capital of Zabul province, where the Romanian military from the 2nd Infantry Battalion Calugareni are acting.

The guests met in Qalat at the headquarters of the Team of Provincial Reconstruction the commander of NATO forces from the South of Afghanistan, Major General Ton Van Loon , the deputy chief of Team of Reconstruction, Major Martin Regan, the UN special representative for Afghanistan, Tom Koenigs and the commander of the 2nd Infantry Battalion Calugareni, Lt. Colonel Daniel Petrescu. The local administration representatives participated in this meeting, too.

This occasion, the UN officials were informed about the projects of development initiated by the international community in Zabul province considered as an example for the entire Afghani south area.

Ambassador Kenzo Oshima appreciated the ISAF efforts in maintaining an environment of security and stability in the province , that allowing the implementation of programs and projects of development in infrastructure, education and the Afghani national structures of security.

‘There are almost three years since the last visit of the UN Council of Security delegation in Afghanistan. I am very pleased about the progress made in Zabul province as a result of the fruitful cooperation between NATO-ISAF forces, local authorities and the Afghani national security forces (ANSF) stated the high UN representative and added the ill-fated phenomenon of terrorism, the insurgent activity in this country must be eliminated once and for all. The UN Council of Security appreciates the ISAF mission as being fully legitimate and the United Nations Organization is granting all the necessary support to bring the peace and security in Afghanistan.
