The Mechanized Brigade, Iasi at the 130th anniversary

On January 1, 2007 we are celebrating 130 years since the establishment of the 15th Regiment Dorobanti with the traditions still continued by the 15th Mechanized Brigade Podu Inalt.

The military ceremony marking the event will occur Thursday, January 4, at 11 a.m. in the 15th Mechanized Brigade Command, Iasi, strada Ghica Voda nr.2.

Civil and military officials, representatives of the public institutions, and military are invited to participate in this festivity.


The 15th Regiment Dorobanti was established on January 1, 1877 in Piatra Neamt garrison, subordinated to the 4th Territorial Division Iasi.

The War of Independence represented the baptize of fire for the dorobanti of the 15th Regiment that participated in Bechet to the operation of covering of the frontier and than in the fights at Plevna, Rahova and Vidin and for their bravery in the fight they received the Order Crucea Trecerii Dunarii.

In the First World War, the military of the 15th Regiment participated in the summer of 1916 to the fights for the liberation of Transylvania on Valea Uzului, Miercurea Ciuc, Vlahita and Odorhei and in 1917 in Oituz battle.

In 1941, the military of the 15th Regiment Dorobanti fought for the liberation of Bessarabia, then on Odessa front and one year latter, they participated in the combat on Cotu Donului. Since September 1944, the military of the Regiment had bloody fights on Tarnava Mica and Mures valleys, on Somes hills, in Hungary and Czechoslovakia.

At the end of the Second World War, the 15th Regiment Dorobanti was deployed in Piatra Neamt garrison again, and two years latter it was moved in Bacau. In 1959 the Unit was deployed in Iasi. On July 1, 1994 the 15th Mechanized Regiment started its transformation into a Mechanized Brigade. On May 8, 1996 the 15th Mechanized Brigade received the Combat Colors and the historical name Podu Inalt.
