Roberts Gates congratulates the Romanian military in Iraq

The US Defense Secretary Robert Gates met today January 19 in Tallil during his visit in Iraq the military of the 811th Infantry Battalion Dragonii Transilvani.

Roberts Gates was accompanied by the Multinational Force Iraq, General George W. Casey Jr. and Brigade General Dan Ghica Radu, deputy chief of Operations in the Coalition General Staff.

Lieutenant Colonel Tudorel Dragonici, commander of the Romanian Battalion, presented an information on the missions fulfilled in South of Iraq underlining the remarkable cooperation between the Romanian military and the Coalition military present in Dhi Qar province. He also thanked the US partners for the logistic support offered during the arrangement of the new Romanian Camp Dracula and for their support in protection of the personnel during the missions.

The US Army recently endowed the Romanian armored carriers with 24 electronic systems (warlock) for the detection of the improvised explosive devices. The Romanian Battalion also received 15 Humvees for the use for the increase of mobility during the patrol missions in common on the main ways of communications.
