Minister of Defense, Sorin Frunzaverde had meetings at Pentagon and the US Department of State

During the visit in the United States of America, the Minister of Defense, Sorin Frunzaverde and the Chief of the General Staff, Admiral Gheorghe Marin had, Friday February 2, the talks at the US Department of Defense and the US Department of State.

In Pentagon, Minister Sorin Frunzaverde had talks with the US Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, his deputy Gordon England, the President of the Joint Committee of Chiefs of Staffs, General Peter Pace and at the Department of State they met the Under-secretary of State for Political Affairs, Nicholas Burns.

On their agenda, among other issues they had the Romanian and the US common action against terrorism in the theaters of operations, the situation in Iraq, Afghanistan, Western Balkans and the Black Sea region, the process of transformation of the Romanian Armed Forces and the support granted by our US partners in this respect, the aspects of the presence of the US troops in the training facilities set at disposal on the Romanian territory and our country's candidature for the organization of the NATO Summit in 2008.

In Washington, Minister Sorin Frunzaverde received the thanks not only from the US military officials but the political ones, too for the professionalism the Romanian military showed in the theaters of operations, remarking the fact that Romania deployed troops in the most difficult areas requiring the most difficult missions, such as the South of Afghanistan. In the same day, Friday, Minister of Defense, Sorin Frunzaverde was invited to participate in the round table at the National University of Defense in Washington D.C. were they approached among others the issues focused on the process of transformation of the Romanian Armed Forces, our country's priorities as member of the North Atlantic Alliance and the European Union, the state of security in the Black Sea region.
