Ceremony in Iraq

The ceremony of receiving of the mandate within the Iraqi Freedom mission, between the 811th Infantry Battalion Dragonii Transilvani and the 495th Infantry Battalion Captain Stefan Soverth occurred today in the Romanian Dracula Camp in Iraq.

Brigade General Ion Chiranescu, representative of the 2nd Joint Operational Command Maresal Alexandru Averescu and Brigade General Dan Ghica Radu, deputy chief of Operations in the Coalition Staff participated in this ceremony.

The Romanian military are acting within the Multinational Division South East, for the creation of an environment of peace and stability in Iraq.

Dragonii Transilvani fulfilled in the six months mission in Dhi Qar Province the missions of guard, escort and patrol for the security of the ways of communications. The Romanian military also developed and finished a series of projects of water supply systems, power supply of few localities in Dhi Qar Province and the reconstruction of a school for the Iraqi children.

During the mission the Combat Colors of the 811th Infantry Battalion was decorated with the National Order Pentru Merit in rank of Knight with signs of war granted by the Presidential Decree for special results gained during the training and the fulfillment of the missions of stabilization and reconstruction in the theater of operation in Iraq.

Commander of the 811th Infantry Battalion , Lieutenant Colonel Tudorel Dragonici and the military of this Battalion received medals and distinctions granted by the US and the Iraqi military officials.
