Romanian US exercises in the Black Sea

The Romanian Regele Ferdinand frigate, the US destroyer The Sullivans and a maritime patrol plane P3 Orion type have the training between February 12 and 18, in Romanian territorial waters and the Black Sea international waters.

The Romanian and the US military will perform maneuvers in formation according to NATO proceedings and the exercises of surveillance and report of the naval situation in an area of communication, the control of a suspect ship and the transfer of light materials. The common training will end Sunday, February 18, with a PASSEX type exercise.

The US guests will have meeting with the commander of the Flotilla and the representatives of the local authorities.


The Sullivans destroyer is ARLEIGH BURKE class, commanded by Captain Commander Anthony J. PARISI. The ship is 153.8m length, 20.4m width, 11m draught and 8.422 t displacement. The crew consists of 298 sailors, among them 36 are officers. The propulsion is ensured by turbines GE LM 2500 type of 105,000HP. The ship has artillery installations of 127mm and 20mm, Mk 32 Mod torpedoes and Tomahawk and McDonnel Douglas Harpoon missiles.
