The US General David D. McKiernan in visit to the Romanian Ground Forces

General David D. McKiernan, commander of the US Army Europe, of the 8th US Army and of the NATO Terrestrial Component, Heidelberg visited Romania between March 13 and 14, 2007 invited by the Chief of the Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ph.D. Teodor Frunzeti.

During the official talks they approached the issues regarding the Army's priorities for 2007 and the common training of the Romanian and the US military participants in missions in the theaters of operations. Both of the Armies, the Romanian and the American, are transforming in the same time. Our cooperation is excellent stressed General McKiernan. General McKiernan and General Frunzeti also had talks on the increase and strengthen of the cooperation between the Romanian Army and the US Army Europe (USAEUR) within the international missions in the theaters of operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Balkans.

During the visit in Romania, the US General was received by the Minister of Defense, Sorin Frunzaverde, by the Chief of the General Staff, Admiral Gheorghe Marin and by the State Secretary Corneliu Dobritoiu.

The US guests also visited the Army Academy, in Sibiu and the Infantry Training Center in Fagaras.

General David D. McKiernan held different command and staff positions in the Infantry , Mechanized and Tanks units in the United States, in Europe, Korea and the South Western Asia.

Graduate of William & Mary College, General McKiernan is master of Shippensburg University and honorific PH.D in Public Service at William & Mary College.

In 2003 General McKiernan commanded the US and the Coalition forces in Iraq.
