Balkan Chiefs of Staff Conference on Regional Stability and Security's Strengthening

Admiral Gheorghe MARIN, Chief, Romanian General Staff, along with other Balkan Chiefs of Staff, will attend the conference on regional stability and security's strengthening, on April 17-19, 2007. Admiral MARIN will introduce, on this occasion, the lecture: Strengthening the Cooperation and Security throughout the Wider Black Sea region, on April 18, 2007.
The tenth Balkan Chiefs of Staff from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, FYROM and Turkey -
will analyze the opportunities for an effective and solid cooperation in the Balkans.

The meeting is a real opportunity to strengthen the relationships among these countries by cooperation, transparency and a valuable regional security balance by taking into account the significant regional role played by the NATO and recently, the EU.

Moreover, the participants will also try to find an action way to develop tools, mechanisms and Balkan interstate approaches to improve communication, maximize and make efficient the response in case of regional contingencies, and to enhance the regional trust.

The opening remarks will belong to the Hellenic Defence Minister, Mr. EVANGELOS MELMARAKIS. The Chairman of the EU Military Committee and Commander, NATO Joint Command, Napoli, will attend the conference, too.
