The frigate Regina Maria will participate in NIRIIS 2007 exercise

The frigate Regina Maria will participate in the NIRIIS 2007 international exercise to be developed in the Greek Souda Bay and the Aegean Sea.

The exercise is organized by Greece for the common work according to NATO standards and proceedings for the achievement of interoperability between the invited warships.

The Romanian frigate will leave Constanta harbor, Saturday, May 5, at 10.30 hours and will return Tuesday, May 22, around 11 a.m.

The frigate is commanded by Commander Costel Tataru and the crew consists of 209 sailors.


The characteristics of frigate Regina Maria : displacement- 4900 tdw, length- 148m, width-14.75m, max speed- 30 knots, max draught- 6.4m, eight decks, autonomy- 4500 maritime miles. The ship is equipped with a super rapid 76mm Otto Melara gun, torpedo installations, computer assisted command, passive jamming installation TERMA, electronic warfare systems, nine radar systems. The propulsion system consists of four Rolls-Royce turbines.
