The Mountain Troops sub-unit return home ceremony will be marked Tuesday, May 8, starting 15.00, in Predeal; the unit acted as part of the Protection Force within the UNAMI mission in Iraq.

The 100 men Company, from the 21st Mountain Battalion acted between September 2006 and April 2007 within the Multinational Division South East together with the British partners. The Romanian military mainly fulfilled the missions of security of Basra UNAMI HQ, organization of check points for people and cars and escort of the UN personnel.


The first Romanian sub-unit for the UNAMI mnission support, entered the theater of operations in Iraq in March 2005, at the UN request. During its mandate, the Romanian sub-unit was manned with the military of the 26th Infantry Battalion Neagoe Basarab from Craiova, the 33rd Mountain Battalion from Curtea de Arges and the 21st Mountain Battalion from Predeal.
