Minister of Defense will visit the military units in Arad and Bistrita

Minister of Defense, Teodor Melescanu will visit Friday and Saturday, May 11 and 12, the military units deployed in Arad and Bistrita, subordinated to the 81st Mechanized Brigade.

In Arad the delegation headed by the Minister of Defense will meet the personnel of the 191st Infantry Battalion Colonel Radu Golescu , part of the Romanian Module of the Peacesupporting Romanian-Hungarian Battalion.

In Bistrita they will visit the command of the 81st Mechanized Brigade and the 812th Infantry Battalion Soimii Carpatilor , participant since December 2006 in the Afghani theater of operations, in Zabul.

The delegation will also have meetings with the local administration officials.



The 81st Mechanized Brigade was established in May 1, 1994 during the Romanian Armed Forces process of reorganization, consisting in the 191st Arad Infantry Battalion Radu Golescu, the 811th Dej Infantry Battalion and the 812th Bistrita Infantry Battalion.
The 191st Infantry Battalion participate with a module of 450 military in the Romanian-Hungarian Battalion. This unit was established as a result of the Agreement between the Romanian Government and the Hungarian Government signed by the Ministers of Defense in March 20, 1998. The Arad Battalion is participating with a Detachment in the Western Balkans operations.
The 811th and the 812th Infantry Battalions acted in the Iraqi theater of operations within ANTICA BABILONIA and IRAQI FREEDOM missions.
In December 2006 Brigade General Alexandru Rus was appointed the commander of the 81st Mechanized Brigade.
