Minister Teodor Melescanu in visit in Arad

The delegation headed by the Minister of Defense, Teodor Melescanu visited Friday, May 11, the 191st Infantry Battalion Colonel Radu Golescu in Arad, the unit being subordinated to the 81st Mechanized Brigade.

The unit's commander, Lieutenant Colonel Pascuta Grigore Victor presented the organization, endowment and missions of the 191st Battalion, the level of operationalization of the Romanian Module of the Romanian-Hungarian Peacesupport Battalion and the problems of manning and endowment. They made a short demonstration with different types of equipment.

The problems risen by the commander were on the limit of the age for soldiers and volunteers, endowment and level of wear, lack of personnel, and externalization of quterring.

During the talks with the 191st Battalion personnel and the military of the Romanian Module of the Romanian-Hungarian Battalion, Teodor Melescanu assured they will analyze and solve the problems, most of them related to the problem of lack of houses, in an increase program for all the garrisons, the MoD leaders are paying a special attention to.


The 191st Infantry Battalion Colonel Radu Golescu is part of the 81st Mechanized Brigade, established in May 1, 1994 within the Romanian Armed Forces process of reorganization. The Battalion is now participating with a Detachment in the Western Balkans operations. In the same time the 191st Battalion participates with a Module of 450 military in the Romanian-Hungarian Battalion. This unit was established after the sign by the Ministers of Defense of the Agreement between the Romanian and Hungarian Governments, on March 20, 1998. The Romanian Module of the Romanian-Hungarian Battalion, part of the 191st Infantry Battalion acts in the barracks in Cetatea Ardealului and the afferent shootingfields.
