Minister Teodor Melescanu in Bistrita garrison

The delegation headed by the Minister of Defense, Teodor Melescanu, continued Saturday May 12 in Bistrita, the activity of documentation started Friday, May 11, in Arad, with the visit of the headquartes of the 81st Mechanized Brigade and the 812th Infantry Battalion Soimii Carpatilor.

The Brigade commander, Brigade General Iosif Alexandru Rus presented the stage of the process of restructure, re-organization and transformation of the subordinated structures, the level of operationalization and endowment and the personnel's problems and their possible solutions.

The Minister of Defense appreciated the 81st Brigade activity and underlined on the most important mission of the commander is to coordinate and logistically support the military of the 812th Infantry Battalion acting in the Afghani theater of operations, in Zabul, and in the same time to maintain the level of operationalization of the Brigade's units.

During the meeting with the personnel, Teodor Melescanu stated the social issues, most of them on the need of houses, will be analyzed and solved within the program the MoD leaders are conducting in all the garrisons.

Minister Melescanu reiterated the concern of the MoD leaders for the increase of quality of life for the military and civilian personnel and the modernization of equipment and endowment.


The 81st Mechanized Brigade is subordinated to the 4th Territorial Army Corps Maresal Constantin Prezan. It was established in May 1, 1994 during theRomanian Armed Forces process of reorganization and now it comprises the 191st Infantry Battalion Radu Golescu from Arad, the 811th Infantry Battalion from Dej and the 812th Infantry Battalion from Bistrita.
