Minister of Defense, Teodor Melescanu visited Thursday, May 17, the 300th Mechanized Infantry Battalion and the 284th Tank Battalion deployed in Galati and subordinated to the 282nd Mechanized Brigade Unirea Principatelor.

The Chief of the Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ph.D. Teodor Frunzeti is part of the delegation headed by the Minister of Defense and they were informed on the stage of the process of restructure, reorganization and transformation.

The 300th Mechanized Infantry Battalion and the 284th Tank Battalion, this year, will end the process of operationalization within the big unit for them to be introduced into the package of forces destined to NATO.

Minister Melescanu had talks with the two Battalions personnel to find out the problems they are confronting with and to identify together with the local administration officials the possible solutions of the social problems and the pilot programs for houses, equipping and improvement of food service.

In the Day of Ascension, Minister of Defense lighted candles and had a moment of silence for the heroes of the 300th Mechanized Battalion Sfantul Andrei, post mortem Second Lieutenant Ghimboasa Iosif who died in Revolution December 1989 and post mortem Second Lieutenant Narcis Sonei who died in the Afghani theater of operations.

During the visit in Galati Minister Teodor Melescanu met the Bishop of Dunarea de Jos P.S. Ph.D. Casian Craciun.

The visit of units in the Danubian town enlists the series of activities made by the Minister Teodor Melescanu since the beginning of his mandate, to find out and solve the problems on the quality of life for the MoD military and civilian personnel and to focus on the effort, as an immediate priority, on the operationalization of forces Romanian engaged for NATO and the European Union.
