Romanian military help the local population in Iraq and Afghanistan


The Romanian military acting in the theaters of operations in Afghanistan and Iraq developed at the end of the week, the CIMIC missions for the support of the local population, in their area of action.

In Iraq, the military of the 495th Infantry Battalion Capitan Stefan Soverth for the International Day of the Child, an ample action of distribution of writing materials, sweets and toys for the children living in villages in Dhi Qar province, their area of responsibility.
The first action occurred Saturday, May 26, in a place near the Tallil deployment base, where the Romanian military also had a medical mission, when the Battalion doctor, Captain Constantin Voicu and the NCO Mihaela Sinescu granted medical assistance to about 50 persons, children and adults.

In Afghanistan, the military of the 812th Infantry Battalion Soimii Carpatilor in cooperation with representatives of the Afghani National Police distributed about four tons of food in Khala village situated near Lagman base, the place of deployment of Romanians.
The local population received food ( wheat, flour, beans, salt and oil) from the CIMIC team coordinated by Lieutenant Dan Adrian and more than 70 Afghani children received sweets and writing materials.
In the same time, the medical team headed by Major Oscar Sas granted medical assistance and treatment to a group of 20 suffering adults and children.
The food and the writing materials were set at disposal by the Qalat Provincial Reconstruction Team.
