Minister of Defense, Teodor Melescanu participates Monday, June 4, in the 53rd Plenary Session of the UEO Parliamentary Assembly occurring in the French capital. It is for the first time Romania takes part in this forum as the Union member .

Romania's active participation in the European Union development of security and defense was and still is one of the national priorities of our national policy of defense stated Teodor Melescanu in his speech delivered in the Parliamentarian Assembly.

Minister Melescanu stressed on the fact that the Romanian package of forces set at disposal to the EU and NATO was harmonized: the process of planning of forces and capability is based on the principles of complementary between the EU Groups of Combat and NATO Reaction Force.

The Minister of Defense also stated that Romania is fully engaged in the development of the defense capability set at the EU disposal, the reaction force, inclusive. In this context, Melescanu showed Romania is participating in the other two EU Groups of Combat, the first being operational starting July 1, 2007.
